Find the cause before treating the damp
A damp patch on a ceiling or upper wall is a symptom. The water behind it usually comes from somewhere above: lead flashing that has cracked or pulled out of the chimney stack, a blocked or leaking gutter soaking the brickwork, missing flaunching, or a slipped tile letting rain onto the sarking felt. Treating the plaster without dealing with that source only means the stain comes back.
Because we are roofers, we start at the roof. Our drone inspection shows the chimney stack, flashings, valleys and guttering close up, and we look inside the loft for staining and wet timber to narrow down where the water is getting in. Once we know the cause, we repair it, whether that means new leadwork, rebedded ridge tiles, cleared guttering or repairs to the stack.
We also take on general damp proofing work. Not every damp problem comes from the roof, and some have more than one cause, so we tell you honestly what we can see and what we cannot. If a problem sits outside what we can put right, we will say so rather than offer a treatment that does not address it.

See your roof from above before you decide
Most roof problems cannot be seen from the garden. Our drone survey gives you clear pictures of the tiles, ridge, valleys, chimney and guttering, so you can see the damage we are talking about and understand why the work is needed.
It is free and there is no obligation. If the roof is sound, we will tell you so. If it needs work, the images sit alongside your written quote, and they are useful if you are making an insurance claim for storm damage.

Why choose Especially Roofing for damp proofing?
What affects your damp proofing quote?
Every roof is different, so we price your job after looking at it, usually with a free drone inspection first. These are the things that make the biggest difference.
What the cause turns out to be
Clearing a blocked gutter is a small job. Rebuilding failed chimney flashings or repairing a stack involves more materials and more time.
Access to the problem
Chimney stacks and high roof sections usually need scaffolding. A low extension roof or a ground-level downpipe does not.
More than one source
Some damp has two causes working together, such as a leaking flashing and a blocked gutter, and both need dealing with.
Any internal work afterwards
Replastering or redecorating a damaged area is separate from fixing the cause, and only worth doing once the wall has dried.
