Your chimney takes more weather than any other part of the roof
A chimney stack stands proud of the roof, open to wind and rain on every side, so it is often the first place a roof starts to fail. Mortar joints wash out, the sloped flaunching that holds the pots cracks, and the lead flashing where the stack meets the tiles lifts or splits. Left alone, water tracks down inside the brickwork and shows up as damp on a chimney breast.
We repoint brickwork, renew flaunching, fit new pots and cowls, and replace the lead flashing and soakers around the stack. Where a stack is leaning, badly cracked or loose at the top, we take it down to sound brickwork and rebuild it. If the fireplaces below are no longer used, a vented cap keeps the rain out while still letting the flue breathe.
Because most chimneys cannot be seen properly from the ground, we start with a free drone inspection. You see close footage of the pots, the flaunching, the pointing and the flashing, which tells us whether a few repairs will do or whether the stack needs more serious attention, all before any scaffold goes up.

See your roof from above before you decide
Most roof problems cannot be seen from the garden. Our drone survey gives you clear pictures of the tiles, ridge, valleys, chimney and guttering, so you can see the damage we are talking about and understand why the work is needed.
It is free and there is no obligation. If the roof is sound, we will tell you so. If it needs work, the images sit alongside your written quote, and they are useful if you are making an insurance claim for storm damage.

Why choose Especially Roofing for chimney repairs?
What affects your chimney repair quote?
Every roof is different, so we price your job after looking at it, usually with a free drone inspection first. These are the things that make the biggest difference.
Scaffolding
The height of the stack, its position on the roof and how easy it is to reach from the ground all affect the scaffolding needed.
Size of the stack
A small single-flue stack takes far less work than a large shared stack serving several fireplaces across a pair of terraced houses.
Condition of the brickwork
Repointing sound brickwork is quicker than replacing spalled bricks, and a stack that has to be taken down and rebuilt is a bigger job again.
Lead and pots
Renewing all the lead flashing, soakers and back gutter, or fitting new pots and cowls, adds materials and time compared with pointing alone.
